Bridging Communities: Coutorture

When I first started blogging, I wasn't sure where I would fit in. It was actually knitting blogs that inspired me to blog. But I wasn't interested in blogging about my knitting projects. Slowly as it snowballed, I developed my own style and voice. I decided that I wanted to bridge fashionistas with knitters and crafters. So when asked to join Coutorture, there was no question that I would accept this proposition.

Coutoture is the brainchild of Julie Fredrickson and Phil Leif. Ifound out about Julie of Almost Girl from Danielle's blogroll. I really admire the unique perspective that Julie brings to the "fashion blogging medium". Her blog is not about the latest must-haves or a memoir of a shiopaholic (so cliche now), rather a very personal blog about her own insight and philosophy on fashion, thus "where Plato and Prada meet". Since communicating with Julie, she's been so encouraging of what I do for this blog. I'm not exactly your typical fashion blogger nor knitting blogger. I wasn't sure if Making Things would be considered relevant to the fashion blog community. But Julie made sure of it that I would join, because she felt that it was. This is the beauty of the blogging community, all are welcome, and now we have Coutorture to showcase the different viewpoints relating to fashion. This is was makes the blogosphere so exciting!

  1. can you explain a little more what the site is? Im still not sure I get it, is it simply an aggregator or something else?

  2. Yes, you're right it's an aggregator. It's like a sampler for fashion blogs, and it has a search function that can help narrow down searches. It's still really new right now, but I am sure more interesting features will be added later.
