Crochet is the New Lace

(Left: Cotton crochet dress, Rebecca Taylor, $426. Right: Woven-cotton bag, Salvatore Ferragamo, $2,150. via Elle)

I am loving this lace crochet trend, I just wish I had time to learn how to do it! I recently picked up the Amazing Crochet Lace book by Doris Chan. Gorgeous. I will probably neer make anything as is in the book, but a perfect reference for designing crochet lace.

This Fashionista went to market...

(Left: Ralph Lauren, SS06, via Style.com. Right: Crochet market bag, via Canadian Living)

Happy Earth Day! Let's do our part in reducing waste by refusing plastic bags at the grocery stores. You can make your own market bag from this free pattern from Canadian Living. The Ralph Lauren version from last summer was about $2000, and rendered in metallic leather!

P/s Also in Canadian Living is a free pattern for Twinkle'sBest Friend cadri. Enjoy!

New York Fashion Now

I was in New York City last weekend, but it looks like if you want to see "New York Fashion" in a museum context, you have to go to London! The Victoria Albert Museum in London just opened its latest exhibition and it features many of our favorite new and young fashion designers, such as Zac Posen, Tess Giberson, Proenza Schouler, Derek Lam, and many more. Read about it on the V&A stie and check out the slide show in Style.com. I took a peek at the exhibition catalog in a local book store and it's on my wish list now.

New York Fashion Now

17 April - 23 September 2007

If you are in London to catch this show, I sooo envy you!

Forty Years of Benetton

(via Benetton)

Last October, Benetton celebrated 40 years of being in business. They celecbrated with an exhibition held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. This month's Elle features a photo shoot of the special anniversary collection of brightly colored knitwear.

P/S If you like their knitted chain scarves, you'll find a pattern something like this in Teva Durham's Loop-d-Loop.

Let's Get Green

(Left: Lost Art lambswool sweater vest, $400, Right: Lutz & Patmos eco-friendly merino wool Rietveld scarf cardigan, $495. via)

Get caught up in the latest in eco-friendly fashion. I think just about every major fashion magazine has touched upon it.

Check out Elle's presentation on eco-fashion. Many knitwear designs were featured including Lost Art and Lutz & Patmos. I adore the printed totes above! As many of you long time blog readers will know, I dislike "knitting bags", as in, bags that were designed for knitters. These would be great for holding knitting projects. The Anya Hindmarch bag is very tempting, but I think I will continue to make use of what I already own! I think it's still important to stress that we should also consume less and use what we already own, not just buy eco-friendly stuff.

I'm Back... and they've already shot Fall?

(W FEATURE: REVELATION, Left: Elie Tahari wool cashmere turtleneck; TSE cashmere leggings. Dior shoes. Right: Giles wool scarf. Louis Vuitton shoes.)

I've been away, yes, well only for the past weekend, but I was working and preparing towards last weekend, which explains my absence on Making Things. But I haven't been gone for THAT long and they have already shot Fall for W? Maybe they couldn't get enough clothes in time for this shoot...?

P/S America Ferrara is on the cover. Whoa Betty!
