I love the scent of lavender. I am always pleased see them growing around where I live. They are relatively easy to grow; they require lots of sun and best harvested at its most fragrant on a sunny day. When dried they are a wonderfully fragrant.
Keep in mind that only real lavender, not the synthetic fragrance, has therapeutic properties. I learned of this when I visited an essential oil factory. The body only recognizes natural fragrances and knows how to process it. But synthetic fragrances are not recognized and the body does not know what to do with it, so it may build up as toxins in the body. This is why I avoid synthetic fragrances as much as possible. Plus you won't get the therapeutic benefit otherwise.
You can make a lavender sachet very easily. Get a small drawstring organza bag and fill it with lavender. Voila! I like to place it by my bed, it helps me relax and slowly doze off into sweet dreams! I think something like this given as a wedding favor would be lovely and this would be quick and easy to do.
If you're inclined to sew your own sachets, you can get some instructions on how to do so here.
You can also make a lavender bath by placing the herb in a muslin bag and steeping it with hot water and adding it to your bath. This is a lovely treat. The whole house gets to be enveloped in its fragrance!
You can protect your cashmere sweaters from moths with lavender! Lavender is a great natural moth repellent.
